My Hair Heroes

If you have been following me for a while you will know that I obsess about having long healthy blonde hair… let me tell you something for nothing… it’s not as easy as it sounds!! I’ve had a stressful few months and I lost quite a bit of hair – add this to the already slow recovery of my wedding hair desires of 2018 and well I’ve not been left with much!

The past few months I’ve been working through a number of hair hacks and products and I feel I have finally settled on what works for me. Sometimes I feel when we go to salons that only sell one brand, they will push that brand but we are all so different and surely different brands suit different people… I thought you would be interested to read my hair hacks and product list and why I love them. Maybe it will prompt you to look at your own routine and tweak it. As always I will share pictures of the products I am using you can click the picture they are affiliate links if you wish to buy or add anything to your shopping list. Ok lets go;

Hair grows from within; If you are trying to grow your hair be it for a big occasion like a wedding, party or just trying to grow out a fringe that you thought was a good idea ( we have all done this ) you need to remember this important point… your hair grows from within!!! There is no point investing in good products if you don’t drink any water or you eat crap food. We are living creatures that need to be looked after and respected so when you make your food or fluid choices do keep this in mind. I do take a supplement that I believe helps and that is Biotin.

Biotin is one of the main ingredients of all those hair supplements you see advertised. It’s a B vitamin often recommended for good hair health. Since biotin deficiency can lead to thinning of the hair, it is claimed that taking biotin supplements in tablet form can thicken hair and stimulate hair and nail growth. I have experienced growth in my hair and nails. Please note it does say it needs to be taken as part of a well balanced diet, I am not a doctor and in no way qualified to advise on supplements – I am just saying it worked for me but we are all totally different!

Sweet Silk Pillowcase Dreams; I have linked this before in my August replacements. It’s such good quality and I have really noticed the difference sleeping on it. Its a great price point some are soooo expensive – I really couldn’t afford to be sleeping on a 100 euro pillowcase!! I read somewhere that the right silk pillowcase is a sleep super weapon for your hair and skin!! Think about it we spend so much time in bed… silk pillowcases can change the entire game for you. Thanks to silk’s super smooth texture, hair glides over it without any friction which means you’ll be less likely to wake up with frizzy hair, tangles, or bedhead, whereas cotton can snag hair and mess it up into a nest of tangles overnight.  I’ve ordered this one from Amazon (I’m addicted to Amazon) and its under £20!

Hair clips and hair ties; If you are throwing your hair up in a bun everyday with elastic hair ties PLEASE STOP!!!! You should literally love every single strand that grows down so look after it. I only use two types of hair ties invisbobbles and the material hair ties – they don’t snap your hair! I really only tie my hair up the last day or two of my blow dry.

I also get so many questions about my hair clips I wear on instagram ALL THE TIME! I cannot live without these I got mine on AliExpress which I will link here but if you don’t fancy the delay in shipping (warning it can take weeks from china) you can get them on Amazon by clicking the picture.

OK lets get down to the actual products;

I get my hair coloured every 8 weeks! I don’t wash my hair at home at all! I only wash it once a week in a salon – you can read more about my 7dayblowdry and why I’ve gone to the extremes of a no water at home policy here. When I go to the salon I bring all my own products I alternate between the products listed below and I feel I am really starting to understand what my hair needs and when…

Color Wow Dream Filter; If you follow me you will not be surprised to see this here. This product has TRANSFORMED my hair from a brassy golden blonde (5 weeks post colour appointment) to an actual blonde colour I always wanted!! My hair still feel fresh and I’ve not had it coloured in 6 weeks!! Check out the before I knew this product existed to get an idea of what my colour used to wash up like I put it beside a pic of the blonde that I have been maintaining with this product!

This product is not just for blonde hair or coloured hair for that matter!! We have really bad water in Ireland so you need this product. It’s a pre shampoo mineral remover that works like a magnet to remove unwanted deposits from the hair that dull and darken and distort your hair colour. I will always and forever have this product with me and I will make sure to have a spare!! It sells out a lot so I am sharing the amazon link below – buy in sterling!!

Olaplex; This product is a total game changer when colouring your hair. I never get my hair coloured without it – ask in your salon if you can add this into your colour service – your hair will thank you!! But it doesn’t stop with in the Salon I have been using Olaplex 3,4 and 5 at home. I try and sleep with Olaplex 3 in my hair at least every second week (I use bottled water – the effort I know!). Olaplex formulas seek out broken bonds in the hair and repair them, restoring compromised hair to former glory. This is your first step towards stronger, softer, healthier hair – and hair Kim Kardashian swears by it!! Used as a pre-shampoo treatment (leave on for as long as possible). I alternate between this and Dream Filter)

Cleanse your scalp; You need to have a cleansing shampoo in your routine – its very important! Think about it… a clean scalp is a healthy scalp = healthy hair growth! I’ll be honest I tried the Kevin Murphy Maxi Wash shampoo and I found it so very drying so I needed to find a new one. The weeks I sleep with Olaplex in my hair I bring the Paul Mitchell Shampoo Two with me. It was recommended to me by Sabrina Hill and I’m already on my second bottle! I trust her with hair so much – an absolute must follow for anyone on a hair journey!! It does a brilliant job cleansing without drying or stripping colour it will help to lift away mineral deposits from hard water too!!

*I was gifted my first bottle of Shampoo Two from New Hair Revolution but have since repurchased.

Hydration time; I am all about injecting the hydration back into my hair so I alternate between the cleansing shampoo above and the Purology Hydration range (I use the conditioner too)! Its so so good and it smells really good! It’s for dry colour treated hair – my hair really feels it when I use it. It’s difficult as a blonde to get a shine on your hair and this shampoo really does deliver a shine.

Time to tone; If you are blonde you absolutely MUST have a purple shampoo or conditioner of some sort in your routine!! Be warned using a purple product can be counter productive if you use it too often so much so I dropped it from my routine until I got my colour back to a place where I was happy with it. I have been around the block with purple products and I am sticking with Kevin Murphy Blonde Angel Treatment. It’s a brilliant treatment and has a great toning power – removing all yellow tones that creep in. It smells like Lavender too <3

Heat Protector is key; I am using Label M heat protector and I am loving it. If you are not using a heat protector you are essentially undoing all the hard work your products are doing for you. I don’t allow any heat near my hair without it. When I finish this bottle I really want to try the Moroccan Oil one – I’ll be able to say which one if my fav then.

Let me know what products you are using and what your hair heroes are???

Here’s to good hair days xox

    Hi Denise,
    Can Olaplex 3, 4 and 5 be used on raptures hair extensions? I’d love to use as my blonde hair has been breaking a bit more which is why I have swapped to Kevin Murphy colour and a colorist that’s really careful with the application I found L’Oréal was causing my scalp extreme irritation and the colorist was overlapping the colour so I’m trying to do everything I can to get it back to normal !! Loved reading all about hair heroes!
